When I haven't kept up on the monthly blog posts, it eats away at my conscience until I can't stand it! I may be a few months behind this time but I am determined to make it up and not let it happen again. I should have had plenty of time to keep up on the blog post for February because it was so miserable to be kept inside. The winter storms seemed to rage on weekly and always when I was headed to Brigham City to teach art lessons.We tried to make the best of indoor play time. Matt could sense my dire need for indoor frivolity and got me a used Guitar Hero game for the Wii. We are not much gamers. We have an original Wii and a handful of games. I used to love playing Guitar Hero before we got rid of our PS2 (a long time ago). I stay on Easy level, but I love it. Otto loves to play along and pretend to be in the band and then shout "HEY, You Rock!" when the songs are over. Matt doesn't enjoy it as much, but he plays along with his drum set.
We also spent our time cleaning, preparing for art lessons or Story Time events, and experimenting with art projects.Matt worked hard on growing and grooming his Winter Beard. He was so very proud of his amazing beard. He claimed it was keeping him warm, even though I begged for him to trim it up. I should be grateful he always kept it very clean and smelling good.
Otto is preparing to turn 3 with small steps toward potty training. This only means that we talk about it often and sometimes sit on the potty to give it a try. He is nowhere NEAR ready to potty train as he has absolutely no mature ability to sense the arrival of either number one or number two. They all seem to happen with complete surprise to everyone. However, I think it is worth having the conversation and encouraging he give the potty a try. This idea comes from the impending event of starting Preschool in the Fall. Discovery Kids preschool has accepted his enrollment as well as employed me to teach the 3 year old class at the same time! In comparison to the last time I decided to return to teaching, I think this easy-going, part-time option will work out a lot better for our family. I am so grateful and excited to become a member of the Discovery Kids team. They are building a new facility near our house that will be amazing!
We also spent a lot of cold night playing games before bedtime. Otto learned to play UNO and Disney Scene It so fast. His other favorite game was his Cousins Memory game that his Grandma Carolyn made him for Christmas so he could learn about all his cousins far and wide. It worked like a charm; he knows all their names!
Romantic Matt bought tickets to the aquarium Fishes and Kisses night. I will admit, I told him to get the tickets. . .but he did! It was a beautiful evening! We were served dinner next to the shark aquarium and ate dessert while touring the rest of the aquarium. Live music, getting dressed up, and sparkling cider is a very romantic time. He also had a special book ordered of all the reasons he loves me. I will read it every time I'm mad at him or he is mad at me.
At the end of the month, we attended a local Adoption conference. It was my belief that we needed the training hours for our re-certification. I was technically wrong, but we enjoyed the chance to meet other adoptive couples and join the conversation. It was a great conference and it got us both excited for the possibilities ahead.
